Icon meme!

Had a nice birthday. Weird that I am officially 20. For the actual day, [ profile] splintercat organized a trip to a Japanese-style karaoke place with private booths and we spent two hours making crazy, loud, off key fools out of ourselves. It was awesome. Also received amazing joke presents from friends from home, [ profile] wyvernrabbit and [ profile] enjoyabel:

1) Gone With the Nerd
2) Modified standing cut-out of Edward Cullen. Mine has sparkly Wonder Woman wrist cuffs, and buttons that say "I Support Cedric Diggory" and "I Sparkle For Liz."

Point two has taken up residency in my dorm room, where he has acquired further modifications in the form of a fashionable scarf and a panda hat. He watches over me while I sleep!

Be horrified. You know I am. Although slowly he's grown on me until I can almost view him with a kind of affection.

There were some other things I wanted to talk about, but I've pretty much forgotten what they were. I've been neglecting this LJ for too long.

Oh yes, I have a Twitter now, which I promise I will never bother you LJ friends about again. However, for the interested, you now have a link.

Alright, enough of that randomness. Have a meme:

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick six of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

I was prompted by [ profile] thisissirius!

Keywords: Al = Ara?!
Why I have it: I have a deep and abiding love for Al of Fullmetal Alchemist. He is a cutie pie. Al, like Hal, is pronounced "kuhp-keyk." I love the FMA movie just because he's in it (as two different, separately awesome people)! And FMA is making a come back this anime season! Also, this icon in and of itself is extremely adorable. Just look at it! Also, "ara" is a cutesy/feminine way of saying "huh?" or "what?" in Japanese. The cuteness is key here! It allows me to express confusion in a way that is cute and endearing and will hopefully offset the obnoxious questioning that is sure to follow in the comment itself!

Keywords: Merlin/Arthur = Cheers!
Why I have it: They keep saving each other. Also, this is my favorite scene and I love the coloring of it here in this icon.
Maker: [ profile] misty_creates

Keywords: Waterhouse = Rue with a difference!
Why I have it: I'm not a particular fan of Shakespeare's, but I do like Ophelia, and I adore John William Waterhouse. The full painting of Ophelia that this is cropped from is creeeeepy, but I really love how Waterhouse composed this painting--its colors, her stance, the style of her clothes. So I cropped out her crazy stare and left in the pretty. "Rue with a difference" is a line of Ophelia's when she's handing out flowers, since I imagine she's picking them here.

Keywords: Bradley = Hahaha no!
Why I have it: Oh, Bradley James. I love you, but this icon is only ever to be used in irony.
Maker: [ profile] angel_elf_icons

Keywords: Ianto = Clumsy!
Why I have it: I love Ianto. I love this line. I am often a huge, blundering idiot. This icon's use sort of speaks for itself.
Maker: [ profile] nomorewolfie

Keywords:Jack = Stop! Harkness time! (New plan!)
Why I have it: Stop (first hand motion)! Now meditate on my awesomeness (second hand motion). This icon says, "pay attention to Jack, as he's about to fix everything that's gone off track in this comment thread!" I'm obviously playing on "Stop! Hammertime!" here, and this never fails to make me laugh (at myself).

I don't think you've effectively conveyed the awesome of Point 2, i.e. PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN.

I'll do the icon thing. FYI, one of my icons is of Alexandre Cabanel's Ophelia! As usual, we are secretly the same person... almost. Or I'm mind controlling you to have an icon of a painting of Ophelia that (I looked it up) was painted not too long after the painting of Ophelia that I have an icon of. I'm looking at them now; Cabanel's is prettier, I think, but Waterhouse's is closer to the feeling of Ophelia - she has that crazed air.

Ok, so don't pick this icon, because I just explained it and used it. (Further explanation: it's samplings of different parts of the painting overlaid with text from Rimbaud's "Ophelie", made by yours truly.)

Al is adorable. I want to watch the new one SO BAD.

(Edited to fix FACTS, because Waterhouse actually did multiple Ophelias? and I mixed them up while reading the Wikipedia article. The first was much earlier, only six years, I think.)

Proof will come, perhaps. Maybe in another post.

Actually, Waterhouse did ( three ( Ophelias (, but yeah, anyway, totally the same person. I really like Cabanel's, but seriously I am 100% partial to Waterhouse, there's no contest. Must agree to disagree on this.

Six icons, huh?

[identity profile] 2009-04-09 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, wait, what the heck, it's like we planned matching icons of Ophelia. That's so weird. The weirdness didn't fully sink in last night, but now I think it's pretty weird. Well, maybe not that weird.

Why two xxxHolic ones?

Well, I have a Yuuko icon, I was continuing the theme of samesies. Also, you use them frequently and I'm curious about them. Also, I was half asleep when I wrote that comment and just sent it when I woke up today, so maybe I didn't really notice when I picked them out.

[identity profile] 2009-04-09 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Whatever did your roommate say about Mr. Cardboard Spunk Ransom anyway? I am most curious.

[identity profile] 2009-04-09 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
once in the middle of the night i kind of half woke up and heard the empty sound of cardboard being knocked into. for one horrible moment i thought liz kicked him in her sleep and he fell on her in a compromising position. no words, no words...

[identity profile] 2009-04-09 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahahaha. I am going to assume you are her roommate?

The entire time we were putting him up, Eli kept talking about how much you were going to hate her for this. I was depressed when she didn't message me when you returned telling me she got killed because of my birthday gift.

... also, if your icon of what I think your icon is of? Because... omgawesome.

[identity profile] 2009-04-09 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, sorry, do not mean to lurk and creep up on you like this in true edward cullen style.

haha. i kind of just did a double-take when i'd entered the room, but recovered since, well, it's elizabeth.

and yes, it isss.

[identity profile] 2009-04-09 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
You did not grease my window open so I cannot say that was true Edward Cullen style. Close, however. Close.

And I love that people just brush this off because it is Elizabeth, especially since she kept going on and on about how her Barnard street cred has been ruined, etc. I now doubt she had any to begin with.

I think I spent ten minutes watching that damn icon overandoverandover again. Possibly singing along. With dramatic hand motions. -ded-

[identity profile] 2009-04-09 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHHAA. elizabeth and street cred. she used to have fake english (language) cred until someone pointed out that what she says rarely makes sense... to this she also confessed.

also. wtf? i have not read the books; i did not know. but that is seriously creepy. i am also getting some very slimy phallic imagery.

when i first saw the icon i was beyond mesmerized. it was like the song was made for gaius baltar.

[identity profile] 2009-04-10 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, she was all "omg no one will ever take me seriously at Barnard again /cry" and I was like "you are bringing him anyway and I am posting photos all over Facebook." Because apparently ruining reputations is my job. Even ones that don't exist, ahemELIZABETH.

Yeahhh, I read the book so I could lead the Good Fight against them over at the Twilight Lexicon, and in the unreleased one from Edward's POV he GREASES HER WINDOW SO HE CAN WATCH HER SLEEP. It's seriously horrifying. D=

... and now I'm getting slimy phallic imagery too which I did not want, ever.

[identity profile] 2009-04-09 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously, that icon is awesome.

That's how she's going to explain it when you wake up one day to find him in bed with her. "Oh! Diana! He just, er, fell over? Accidentally, of course!"

Well, my roommate answered for me, but!

You replied to this entry so I'm forcing you to complete this meme! Tell me about your icons! Especially your fifth element icon because I seriously have nightmares about it. It haunts me in the moments before I drift off into sleep each night. It is much like Edward in that respect.

[identity profile] 2009-04-09 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
rofl. Icon meme completed at my journal.

And I <3 my Fifth Element icon.

[identity profile] 2009-04-09 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)

Happy birthday! I am late. 8D

So so so I am wondering, I have been wishing for a Japanese-style private rooms karaoke place for a while now and you say there is one here in NYC? That is wondrous news! Did they have Disney theme songs and Rick Astley? Could you tell me where it is?

Pimped and modified cardboard cutouts are the only way to go. Now plant it in your best neighbor's bathroom. Behind the door.

Your icons are faaaabulous, by the by.

And yeah, there are apparently at least two in NYC. The chain is called Japas, we went to the one in the 20s, I think. They had loooooottttsss of Disney songs, although some of them were filed in strange places, I think? I totally wasn't paying attention, I was too busy having fun. We sang a couple of them, I remember. However, we DID NOT sing Never Gonna Give You Up (and now I wish we had!), so I don't know if it was there or not.

I first set Edward up by my roommates bed, so that she had to come all the way into the room before she could tell what it was, and then she was practically in her bed before she could figure it out. Horrifying! She screamed a little! It was awesome! I was gonna move him to the open closet in the dining/common room, just to freak people out when they went to get the cleaning supplies, but I grew attached to him, so he's stayed in the room.

Thanks, again! I'll pick out some of yours, if you want to play...?

[identity profile] 2009-04-12 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, sweeeet! Sometimes I think private karaoke is the thing I miss most about Japan. I am so excited to know this is here! Thank you! (I totally sang Never Gonna Give You Up at one in Tokyo. It was AMAZING.)

Emma keeps threatening me with a cardboard cutout Nicolas Cage. The only thing saving me is that I don't think there actually is such a thing.

I always like to play icon games! 8D (Especially since most of them shall soon be lost, sob.)
