Hmm.
Life has been weird lately.
I finally got a day to come in at the Heritage Center. It's lovely, I like being there, like being useful. As it is, I appear to be shaping up as a general assistant and there seems to be a great chance that I'll get to sort through Victorian-era artifacts (no touching, I mean organizing) with a knowledgeable old lady. Sounds great to me. If only I could get a fizzucking schedule, then everything would be perfect.
Gave up on Madame Mao for the moment, although I have a feeling I'll be seeking solace there before too long. I can't believe I have to read Lord of the Flies. I honestly, sincerely, desperately hate books like it. The thing I fear most, I'm finding -- my least superficial fear, and perhaps my most basic -- is degeneration of moral fiber, civilized structure, and/or humanistic principles. Books like Lord of the Flies make me uneasy to a depth that I cannot fully describe. My inner psychology student is yelling at me that I fear the Shadow to a point that is truly ridiculous and that's all there is to it, but I can't seem to do anything about it.
In lighter news, I finished the fanmix and have been getting pleasing feedback. The songs that ended up on it were:
Vienna - Billy Joel (my oldies throwback)
Golden Boy - Natalie Merchant (I love this song because it's sound is so deep)
Empty Space - Lifehouse (beautiful, I really like the chorus)
Unconditional - The Bravery (I love this song, no questions asked or doubts voiced)
Maps - Yeah Yeah Yeahs (at first I thought this song was annoying, but it really grew on me)
Time After Time - Matchbox 20 (an acoustic cover that fit the tone I was looking for)
The Real Thing - Bo Bice (don't judge me!)
Foolish Games - Jewel (I've always loved this song because it's powerful to sing)
Stay - Michelle Featherstone (this song is almost unbearably melancholy and I refuse to be creeped out by it)
Somewhere In Between - Lifehouse (because it fit the profile; actually, I find it a bit boring)
You're All I Have - Snow Patrol (I always seem to gravitate toward Snow Patrol even though I find them a bit monotonous)
Walk Away - Franz Ferdinand (can't seem to help loving anything by these guys)
Blind - Lifehouse (striking, but not a particularly great song)
Against All Odds - The Postal Service (I like it, but it's not the best I've heard by TPS)
Down We Fall - Drake Bell (never heard of him before, but I'm fond of the song; reminds me weirdly of No Doubt, I think)
If anybody wants any of these songs I've got them hanging around as well as a zip. I can give links in comments, though I'm not holding my breath.
