Oh, Winter Olympics, How I Love Thee!
The US figure skating pairs team just made history (the first ever... throw triple axle? whatever it was, it was awfully pretty!) and I cannot keep the grin off my face. I'm so glad for them!
You see, the Winter Olympics are sort of a phenomenon in my household. My family is not sports oriented. None of us like any particular sport and we have to tune into CNN the day after the Superbowl to find out the winner.
And yet, for 16 days every four years, my house is full of raving sports maniacs! Yesterday we watched the practice runs for what I think was Downhill Alpine and OMG, the jump! It was exhilarating! Amazing! I whooped each time they zooomed through it! I'm such a hopeless speed demon.
I wish I could tape the whole olympics and then pick out my favorites and play them back whenever I felt the need for a vicarious thrill. I will never be coordinated and I will never not be squeamish about sports injury (my God!), but I can always support honest, passionate people who are making history playing the sports they love best.
In conclusion: WAY TO GO JOHN AND RENA!
ETA: YAY FRANCE (first medal - bronze - in Ladies Moguls)! YAY SANDRA LAOURA!
ETA2: Downhill is BAAACK! WAHOO! *shamelessly fangirls Bode Miller*
