I am avoiding my life, so meme-game!

Actually, I really love this movie meme. I avoided doing it because I think/fear/feel that no one will respond, but ah well. Some of these are inexcusable, but I am unrepentant.

1. Pick 15 of your favorite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Fill in the film title once it's guessed.
5. NO GOOGLING / using IMDb search functions. Totally cheating, you dirty cheaters.

1. "Anyone who isn't dead or from another plane of existence would do well to cover their ears right about now." -Dogma
2. -"Did you ever imagine it would end like this?"
-"The horse is a surprise." -The Road to El Dorado
3. "No, right. Silence is golden. As the Tremeloes said. Clever guys. Although I think the original version was by, uh, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Great, great, great band. [hums "Silence is Golden"] Oh, shut up."
4. "They popped out of the snow! Like daisies!" -Mulan
5. "A bird may love a fish, signore, but where will they live?" -Ever After
6. "Odd as it may seem, I've just ruled out half of Greek literature, seven fairy tales, ten Chinese fables, and determined conclusively that you are not King Hamlet, Scout Finch, Miss Marple, Frankenstein's Monster, or a golem. Hmm? Aren't you relieved to know you're not a golem?" -Stranger Than Fiction
7. "You rush a miracle man, you get rotten miracles." -The Princess Bride
8. "In a box. That's the bit I don't like, frankly. That's why I don't think of it." -Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
9. [hitting her husband over the head with a cooking pan] "Who says I can't use a skillet?"
10. "I'm a bagel on a plate full of onion rolls!"
11. "You see - comedy. Love, and a bit with a dog. That's what they want." -Shakespeare In Love
12. "Take your slippers, and may you NEVER have a day's luck with them!" -My Fair Lady
13. "Because, let's be honest, it's a field. Look. Do you see another world out there? No, you see a field. Do you see anything non-human? No, and you know why? Because it's a field!"
14. "May your loss be met with a hurricane of love." -Elizabethtown
15. "The whole purpose of places like Starbucks is for people with no decision-making ability whatsoever to make six decisions just to buy one cup of coffee. Short, tall, light, dark, caf, decaf, low-fat, non-fat, etc. So people who don't know what the hell they're doing or who on earth they are can, for only $2.95, get not just a cup of coffee but an absolutely defining sense of self: Tall. Decaf. Cappuccino!" -You've Got Mail

ETA: 11/15 guessed.

2 - emperor's new groove.

15 sounds so familiar. i can almost picture an actor saying it. someone like john cusack or tom hanks.

Well, you get brownie points for guessing it was Tom Hanks.

You can still redeem yourself!

Hints on remaining quotes: Two of the quotes left are from movies that have Colin Firth in them, one of which is a line that he says. One movie has Johnny Depp in it, while another has Orlando Bloom. Three of the movies left are period works set pre-1600, although one only arguably takes place in that time period. One is a musical. One won the academy award for Best Picture. Two take place entirely in France. One is a fantasy movie. One only scored 28% on Rottentomatoes.

Ooh, I know some of these! And am willing to make blind guesses on others!

2: Road to El Dorado
4: Mulan?
5: If it weren't for the signore, I'd guess Fiddler on the Roof, but since it seems Spanish... Uh, West Side Story?
6: Stranger than Fiction?
7: Princess Bride
12: My Fair Lady (You know, every time I can't find my slippers, I start wondering where the devil they are but Audrey Hepburn never appears to throw them at me. Sigh.)
13: Field of Dreams?
15: You've Got Mail

I'll post my own list once I'm not surreptitiously typing from the office. ^-^

2, 4, 6, 7, 12, and 15 you got right, which is kind of awesome for random guessing. 5 and 13 are extremely wrong, especially since "signore" is Italian. Just saying. ;>

Hints on other quotes: Two of the quotes left are from movies that have Colin Firth in them, one of which is a line that he says. One movie has Johnny Depp in it, while another has Orlando Bloom. Hey, I grew up in California. If it's not Japanese I assume it's Spanish. :P

Yeah, unless the answer is LotR or PotC (both of which meet many of your criteria!) I don't think I'm getting any more of these. ^-^ I feel bad that there's another musical one up there I'm not getting, though.

No one has guessed it yet, there's still time!

Right on both! :)

Hints on remaining quotes: One of the quotes left is a Colin Firth line. One movie has Johnny Depp in it, while another has Orlando Bloom. One of them is set in the Renaissance. One is a musical. Two take place entirely in France. One is a fantasy movie. One only scored 28% on RottenTomatoes.

This comment represents Tom Stoppard.

It is indeed! That one seems to have been bothering some people.

[identity profile] splintercat.livejournal.com 2008-02-27 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
It keeps being translated in my head into "A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle."

I don't know why, I've only slept 10 hours in the past two days.

Ooh, a thin excuse to trot out a Sinfest recommendation!
