Oh good, I fucking loved Mars, I just haven't read it in a long time so I wasn't sure just how soft Kira was to Rei's hard (and that came out much more awkward than I thought it would).
Akuma de Sourou, also known as Careless Devil/The Devil Does Exist (same artist as Crimson Hero, except her style is way more flamboyant in AdS than it is in CH). Shy girl tries to confess to guy she likes, ends up sending love letter to biggest delinquent in school, he takes an interest in her that is definitely of the hair-pulling variety. Then it turns out that her mother is marrying his father and they have to live together, the horror. And also her original crush kind of comes back into the picture, but he is not as nice and kind as she has idolized him to be? I seem to remember the main guy manning up and becoming a lot softer around the edges (and I think he's younger than the girl, which kind of automatically makes him safer?), and the girl gets a bit stronger over the volumes. Anyway, there was character development. Typical shoujo, but I'm pretty sure at the beginning the main guy was hardcore bulling the girl and she was not holding her own. Actually, I think I was reading it because it was like, a prettier version of Marmalade Boy. Obviously, I have not graduated from this trope (see Itazura na Kiss).
Speaking of Marmalade Boy, I only ever read that and Mint na Bokura, so no Datte Suki Damon for me, though the Baka-Updates reviews are definitely lackluster. I bought the first (maybe the second) Absolute Boyfriend volume and wasn't particularly enthused, then eventually got spoiled for the ending and was totally turned off which put paid to that. Absolute Boyfriend is the only Yuu Watase story I've ever attempted, which makes me a terrible shoujo fan, I know, I thought I should come clean.
Re: Fruits Basket, I am totally biased. I started watching/reading it around the same time I had some bullying problems at school and I give it a large amount of credit for saving my sanity from the resultant psychological trauma.
I know Nodame is floating around places. You can get it on youtube if you search "Azil14 Nodame Cantabile" and I'm sure it's all over Veoh. Aha, it's also on Crunchyroll (http://www.crunchyroll.com/group/CRSeries_-_Nodame_Cantabile). The drama (http://www.crunchyroll.com/series-744/Nodame-Cantabile-Live-Action.html) as well.
