I just wanted to make a post talking about how I just cried my eyes out over yet another shoujo manga, this time Honey Hunt. Lots of good things about this manga. The author is the woman who did Hot Gimmick, which I never read, but I always loved the art on the covers. Second, it's about the entertainment industry, so hot guys who sing and fun acting jobs, etc. Can't go wrong. And clincher of clinches, the main character has pretty much been abandoned by her distant celebrity parents and is doing this job to surpass them and to try to find a place where she belongs. I told you I am easily drawn in by this type. It's very pathetic, yet also cathartic. Well, you know.
But then I realized I still haven't talked about Breaking Dawn yet, which I did read. Basically, in my own high-tolerance-for-crap way, I enjoyed it a lot. I was never even squicked. (Thank you for ruining my moral outrage meter forever, yaoi.) Also, I really, honestly, forever, with no reservations, love Jacob Black. Oh, those werewolves, they get me every time. I was glad he got to be a decent person again in the last book. I was ecstatic that he got an entire third to himself. He made a difficult arc bearable. And I am in the minority here, but I really enjoyed Bella's role in the third part. Once she was a vampire, it became a lot easier to just accept her Mary Sue status and get on with it. Also, the part of me that grew up with all those "each character has a different and exciting power!" shows (Sailor Moon, Captain Planet, X Men, off the top of my head) was utterly fascinated with the witness' various talents. New OTP: Garret/Kate ("If we live through this, I'll follow you anywhere, woman." "Now he tells me." ASDFGHJKL *melts*). With regards to Renesmee, I was okay with it. Not totally won over characterization-wise, but I thought the way Meyer used it to resolve all those plot threads was respectable.
So there you go. Mock me at will. I'm incorrigible. Didn't stop me from dying a thousand deaths by laughter as I read
cleolinda's commentary/re-cap. I might yet make a decent lolfan.
Also, the issue with Firefox did indeed vanish when I upgraded to Firefox 3. Though I miss some of my add-ons very acutely, I would rather have any kind of FF over IE. Thanks
splintercat and
wyvernrabbit for the advice.

lmao, don't worry. though I feel like a hypocrite for saying all this, 'cause I've read abusive relationship stuff in yaoi series, and they never bother me so much. *coughJunjouRomantica* ToT

You'll notice I very specifically qualified that I didn't like it in my shoujo manga, hahaha. I guess it's the number of disconnects in yaoi--the readership being almost 100% female, the plots generally bearing little to no resemblance to the lives/choices of actual gay men, etc etc--that allow the weirdness that goes on there to remain firmly in the world of fantasy. I still (much) prefer a relationship with a consenting/eager uke over a reluctant one (even when the guy is clearly in love and hasn't admitted it yet), but yeah, I read both variations with little complaint.

Hmm, I read all those titles, with the exception of Nodame Cantabile.... *ponders* Should I read/watch it? I heard the drama was excellent..... And it has Ueno Juri....
lmao yeah, I prefer it if the uke gives consent before they go to the chickabam action, etc, but yeah, like you said, I could read it if they don't, something that I could never really tolerate in my shoujo, lol.

Is Tohru of Fruits Basket a doormat? I mean, she's pretty easily led, but I personally think she's pretty hardcore awesome. And once again, her love interest is a spectacularly good guy (well, most of the time), even from my perspective as a Yuki fan.
Nodame Cantabile is seriously awesome, I do not know how to tell this to people. Actually, I sort of do, as I have a half-finished pimp post sitting pretty in a Notepad document, but that does others very little good.
Anyway, I went through Nodame like this: I tore through the entire anime and LOVED it, then tore through the manga while I waited for episodes of the drama to download. Lots of people prefer the drama to the anime, but I am not one of them. Not sure why this is, the drama definitely has a unique kind of feel to it, but I've never really been that down with j-drama's particular brand of crack/humor (I liked Hana Kimi rather in spite of itself, and Nobuta is rather better than the drama label indicates). Anyway, the anime is shorter (...sort of) and closer in style and narrative to the manga, so I'd recommend trying that first. If you like the anime, the drama will be more of the same, but with a few new turns and points of humor.

Can't say anything about Akuma de Sourou though, as I haven't read it...
Lemme see, questionable shoujo series... Omg I read Datte Suki Nan Damon. ToT I dunno why I did... I was young and impressionable and all the cool kids were reading Yoshizumi Wataru's stuff!! And I totally read the first 4 volumes of Absolute Boyfriend because it was available and I was trapped at home babysitting kids.
Meh, I consider Tohru a doormat, personally. To me, she didn't really have a personality or even a purpose beyond like, solving all the issues of the Sohma family. ^^;;; I think this just might be personal preference though. I generally don't go for female leads who are the sweet/pure type that everyone loves and her touch heals all internal and external wounds. (Though I am veryyy fond of Hae In in the k-drama the Devil, even if she fits this character type to a T. ^^;; I dunno, the actress was really awesome, and I felt she actually had a life beyond saving the tormented souls of the guys surrounding her, rather than just being told she actually has a life and never actually seeing it on screen/paper)
I guess I shall have to find time to give Nodame the anime a whirl sometime. Is it available for streaming?

Akuma de Sourou, also known as Careless Devil/The Devil Does Exist (same artist as Crimson Hero, except her style is way more flamboyant in AdS than it is in CH). Shy girl tries to confess to guy she likes, ends up sending love letter to biggest delinquent in school, he takes an interest in her that is definitely of the hair-pulling variety. Then it turns out that her mother is marrying his father and they have to live together, the horror. And also her original crush kind of comes back into the picture, but he is not as nice and kind as she has idolized him to be? I seem to remember the main guy manning up and becoming a lot softer around the edges (and I think he's younger than the girl, which kind of automatically makes him safer?), and the girl gets a bit stronger over the volumes. Anyway, there was character development. Typical shoujo, but I'm pretty sure at the beginning the main guy was hardcore bulling the girl and she was not holding her own. Actually, I think I was reading it because it was like, a prettier version of Marmalade Boy. Obviously, I have not graduated from this trope (see Itazura na Kiss).
Speaking of Marmalade Boy, I only ever read that and Mint na Bokura, so no Datte Suki Damon for me, though the Baka-Updates reviews are definitely lackluster. I bought the first (maybe the second) Absolute Boyfriend volume and wasn't particularly enthused, then eventually got spoiled for the ending and was totally turned off which put paid to that. Absolute Boyfriend is the only Yuu Watase story I've ever attempted, which makes me a terrible shoujo fan, I know, I thought I should come clean.
Re: Fruits Basket, I am totally biased. I started watching/reading it around the same time I had some bullying problems at school and I give it a large amount of credit for saving my sanity from the resultant psychological trauma.
I know Nodame is floating around places. You can get it on youtube if you search "Azil14 Nodame Cantabile" and I'm sure it's all over Veoh. Aha, it's also on Crunchyroll (http://www.crunchyroll.com/group/CRSeries_-_Nodame_Cantabile). The drama (http://www.crunchyroll.com/series-744/Nodame-Cantabile-Live-Action.html) as well.

... Akuma de Sourou sounds strangely like that Taiwanese Drama Devil Beside You. ToT;; I dunno, I'm not much for the troupe of guy pulling shy girl's hair to get her attention type of stories. The only one I can remember off of the top of my head that I liked that kinda used this was Anne of Green Gables, and only because Anne got downright pissed off when Gilbert started acting like an idiot and, if memory serves, cracked a board over his head. *amused*
Omg Marmalade Boy. All that unnecessary angst, to find out they angst for years over NOTHING?!?!!? I wanted to strangle someone towards the end. I'd rather they have a tragic ending then that perfectly packaged pile of sugar high for an ending towards the end. (I mean, I love happy endings and all, but if you're going to make a big deal about the incest thing, I'd rather it actually be a real problem and not something that was just there to drag out the story for a million more chapters with a problem that never existed in the first place. It's kinda like when in Spicy Pink, we were told all along that the dude's ex was dead and that's why he's all angsty, and find out she was never dead in the first place!! Like, wtf? Dead people should stay dead.) I don't think I can handle Yoshizumi Wataru's stories very well. ^^;;
Oh I detest Yuu Watase. She has the most retarded taste in romance. (All her girls always seem to fall in love with non-humans. In Ceres the girl ends up with a cloth, no joke. In Absolute Boyfriend she ends up with a robot. And I'm pretty sure in Fushigi Yuugi she ended up with a fictional character in a storybook. Utter phail) Oh yeah, the spoilers for the ending of Absolute Boyfriend turned me off the series for good. The only series I ever semi liked by her was Ceres, and only because the main girl had an awesome twin brother with identity and incest issues due to a soul takeover by ebil!ppls. I kept on imagining the story being told from his point of view. It would have been a MILLION TIMES BETTER!!!
Oh~ I understand about Fruits Basket. I kinda had that relationship with Nobuta wo Produce, actually. It was just one of those stories that reasonated really well with my life, the three mismatched friends and wanting to be happy and not knowing what to do with your life and learning to fit better in 'school society' through help of friends, and even right down to the ending, 'cause the time shuuji had to switch schools I was going through that as well. XD Though I never had a show to watch when I had my personal share of extensive bullying problems. I kinda just... Handled it on my own, lmao. (And I didn't take it well. It was mostly me just crying all day long or pretending that I'm totally okay with everyone treating me like I was the plague reincarnated) Fruits Basket would have been nice to watch during that time. XD
That's for the Nodame links!! XD

Most of my add-ons crossed over, but the MOST IMPORTANT ONE did not. I was able to find an updated version Firefox didn't find when it searched for updates and it works fine. (It's my built in Japanese dictionary, FYI.) So if you have a super important add-on, search for it and see if they have come up with an update.

The Twilighters bewilder, frighten, and sadden me. I find it funny that RPattz feels the same way and yet is not allowed to come out and say it. Poor RPattz, I hope you bring an element of dignity to this freak show because otherwise I don't see how you are going to live with yourself.
