The rain here has been near constant for the past four days.
This isn't really a problem. I like rain a lot. I don't like that rain has some mysterious power over the house's router (we've figured out that the Internet problems always happen during or the day after major thunderstorms), but that is neither here nor there.
Lots of rain. And obviously we aren't the only ones. Hurricane Dean was the first thing I saw when I turned on the TV this morning.
And now I just turned to watch a little of the news on the French channel (an indulgence of the patriarch's that we all occasionally enjoy together with the help of subtitles) and they were doing a segment about how they're having an unusually wet summer in Paris. Apparently, umbrella, raincoat, and wellies sales have jumped as far as 15-20% higher than last year, especially in boutiques and other fashionable places.
So at the end, the reporter narrating this segment says something along the lines of "As long as the public is well-prepared with their shiny rain gear products, we will all be singing in the rain," AFTER WHICH HE STARTED SINGING THE SONG IN ADORABLY FRENCH-TINGED ENGLISH, WHILE WALTZING DOWN THE STREET. AND THEN AT THE END OF IT, THEY FREEZE-FRAMED HIM JUMPING UP IN A SORT OF JIG POSITION AND I JUST DIED. DIED.
Also, there seems to be this really weird correlation between me going to college and the amount of rain I experience. It kind of goes like this:
Random college visits: 0/3, it rained.
Serious college visits: 4/6, it rained.
Barnard College (as accepted student) visits: 2/2, it rained.
And now, with college only 5 days away, it has been raining non-stop.
I'm sorry, NYC, if it turns out that this year breaks records for wettest fall/winter/spring. XD;;;
