SO. A MONTH LATER, I HAVE A LAPTOP AGAIN. HP customer service is really good, but I cannot say the same for their incompetent tech support division.

In celebration of my return, have a Hikago art meme. Though I think I completed it in the spirit that art was a very vague term that can encompass tooling around in paint with my roommate's tablet.

I've been playing a lot of tetris lately, and God's truth, it's gotten to the point where I see tetris scenarios every time I blink. And you know, I keep thinking that this is what it must be like to be a Go pro. To have tsumego, life and death problems, burned into the backs of your eyelids. It's insane! They go through their whole lives like this! I need to write fic!

Also, I'm finally reading Havemercy, and so far it is amazing. Haven't quite decided on a favorite character--the cast listing is atrociously long--but I've already got a ship, which satisfies me in my fangirlish heart.

Also the second, I've finished my paper on "leaving behind heteronormativity in Conrad's Heart of Darkness," which I've taken to affectionately calling "that piece of shit paper where I diss my own sex and shamelessly display my love for gay men." But I got an A on the first draft, so hopefully that will carry over. One more paper left, due over reading week, about nostalgia in émigrés for my European complit class and then I have three finals in two days and then I am OUT of this godforsaken place that I will miss horribly within an hour of arriving home for the summer. I hate that I already know how that will go.

Also, I'm just gonna post my next update for 50books, despite the fact that it is lacking a great deal of logic and also titles to back up the numbers.

A couple of things have prevented me from updating this sooner. 1) I suddenly lost track of how much manga I had bought/read, which means I still have no idea where I am in my manga count. I'm just going to estimate that I've read fourteen manga since my last manga update, even though that number is a gross underestimate. 2) We went into a play unit which I had no idea how to deal with considering that almost all of what I read was either part of a larger textbook or from Project Gutenberg. In the end, I came up with a 5/3 ratio of plays/books and 5/200 of plays/pages, both of which I will round down to the nearest whole number.

Mood manic Music Country Roads - Whisper of the Heart version Tags: hikago, my fanfic

I am on the laptop again. I wish I could say this is because it is hot and I feel like sitting in my room with the air conditioning on and basking in my own indolence, but that would be a complete and total lie.

My computer is sick. It is on its last legs. I have spent all week cleaning it up and moving important files to the E drive and grieving like no sane person ever would over a computer.

On Saturday, it suddenly picked up this weird habit of freezing up so completely that I had to pull the power source to get it to reboot. At first it only happened when the computer had been on for 6+ hours, but the problem quickly worsened to 3 hours and then to 1 hour, until suddenly it wouldn't boot at all.

We got it looked at and it booted all right, but the shutting down thing didn't go away and started happening every 20 minutes or so. The prognosis was basically, "He's old, there's nothing you can do, you need to let him go."

So then came the yelling and the crying and the negotiating until finally my parents agreed that the only thing to do was to evacuate as quickly as possible and buy a new computer in the meantime.

This was not the only thing to break in my house this week. Our [ancient] dryer finally needed to be replaced, our water heater broke for no reason and something else in the basement sprung a leak that's being fixed tomorrow (incidentally, also when the new computer should come in).

The only relatively bright spot was yesterday when my mother dragged me out of the house to go shopping for summer things. I picked up my summer wardrobe and reading list. I was also surprised at the end with a gift for my high marks in the form of getting to pick out a new boom box system for Yukio. So now I have this sleek black thing in the living room that has radio, CD, iPod, and alarm clock capabilities and these blue lights on it which make it possibly the coolest thing I've owned in a long time (STFU, I am easily pleased) and also quite easy to find in the dark.

Otherwise, this week has been a total wash except for having burnt a CD with the HikaGo manga on it which has kept me calm, reasonably happy, and satisfyingly entertained as I've missed anime download after anime download.

Despite the so-called War on Christmas, my holiday appears to be going as well as can be expected when one is coughing and sneezing and generally still sick. I cannot escape the Christmas music -- it has invaded my very thoughts. I'm quite pleased.

The biggest problem I appear to be having with Christmas is that I want to spend the entire day re-reading HikaGo. It was awesome, I loved it, Hikaru and Akira are the best main characters ever. It was like they blossomed into bishounen right before my eyes! I was sick and they made me feel less like ripping my throat out with my bare hands! I'm very grateful.

First Gackt, and now Hikaru no Go. I fear what will happen the next time that I get seriously sick.

Ah well, I'm off to eat Christmas cookies and avoid the living room because gifts are being wrapped. Happy Christmas!
